Memory of Sea Coast Trekking Activity
Returning back to our past with photo albums is one of my favorite activity. Now-a-days, when we are confined at home due to the fear of corona virus I am getting the chance to engage myself with the picture albums very often.Today, I am sharing one of my experience of a coastal trekking of almost twenty eight and half years back( December'1991) with you.
Then we were in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Township(VSP) because my husband was posted there. In December'91 Lions' club of VSP organised a sea-coast trekking programme for the students of local schools i.e.Kendriya Vidyalaya, DAV school and Telegu medium school. Fortunately,l also got a chance be a part of it.The distance from Visakhapatnam to Vimlipatnam is almost 25km on road but now I cannot remember the exact distance along sea-cost.We started our journey from the township by bus (almost 30km)and reached near the Appughar-an amusement park just beside the Kailashgiri. Then Kailash giri was also not developed as a tourist spot.So there are also big rocks along the sea coast. For this reason, most of the beaches are not permitted for taking bath.I started to search for some sea elements along with a few students and got many oysters,big-small cowries, snails etc of different size and beautiful colours in the grooves of the stone-rock.Due to a isolated place, local people and tourists normally do not come to this place regularly .
So we were able to collect these shells of sea creatures.Still now these are conserved as my Visakhapatnam's memory. Initially we started the journey happily, but after covering a long distance we all became very tired. It was my first trekking and was not habituated to walk on sand,it was taking more energy to oppose the frictional force of sand.So after covering some distance we were sitting on the rocks and resting.
But then the guides advised us not to walk too fast and take rest rather maintain an uniform speed. The bus which brought us to the sea-shore was parallely running on the road along with us.The bus driver time to time came to us and enquired if anyone wants to avail the bus.But all the teachers and students of KV,VSP reached Vimlipatnam successfully. Vimlipatnam was a famous port city of Portugeese of 17th century .An old light house,a fort etc remind us their presence once upon a time.We took some photographs inside and outside of the light house. In the evening,we returned to our nest. From this activity students as well as teachers learnt about their physical ability. They also gathered a lot of good qualities -togetherness,sharing their necessary things i.e.food,water, also ideas, values. It was a life long experience for me.We all were very much thankful to the members of the Lions'club VSP township.
